Eclipse 2021
More than 100 students participated in the multicultural dance show Eclipse on April 24, continuing a 46-year-old 91³ΙΘΛ tradition.
Choreographed, produced and performed entirely by students, the event featured hip hop, Afro-Caribbean and West African dance, contemporary dance, spoken word, music performance art and more.
βEclipse is about community building with both past and current students of color,β said Royalti Richardson β21, a sociology and Africana studies double major who served on the executive board for this yearβs Eclipse.
Richardson co-choreographed, with Darriana Greer β21, who also served on the executive board, a βfusion of Afro-Caribbean and West African dance with some hip-hop elements.β The piece connected to this yearβs theme of Eclipse, β(R)evolution,β because it showed that βthroughout history, African culture has never truly disappeared, it has only changed its form,β Richardson said.
Richardson also served as alumni coordinator for Eclipse, adding that four alumni participated: Adrienne Hawkins β76, Jermaine Doris β19, Kimberly Mitchell-Ince β20 and Alexandra Bernardo β20.
βI will look back on my time in Eclipse,β said Richardson, βwith a sense of pride and accomplishment because I did my part to help students of color feel seen and heard.β
